JAGRITI GRAMIN LIBRARIES

As a first step in the expansion of Jagriti-style educational opportunities to farther-lying villages, we launched the Jagriti Gramin Library project with assistance from the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation.

This program now runs eleven libraries in villages in our area. Each library space, placed in a comparatively large village, has been envisaged as a nodal point and support centre for children from an additional ten surrounding villages.

Here, for a minimal fee, students can come and read or borrow books related to the subjects they are learning in school, as well as access works of reference and fiction. Here they can also be initiated into cultural and sports activities.

None of these are available at any of the government schools within the two blocks being covered by us presently, nor are they available in the other three blocks we plan to cover in the coming months.
