JAGRITI PUBLIC SCHOOL

The Jagriti Public School is a new project initiative of Street Survivors India, a non-government society that is attempting to break new ground in rural education. It is registered as non-profit charity under the Societies Registration Act, 1860, Regd. No: 21464.

The School offers equal learning opportunity to all children, irrespective of caste, creed or economic status, vigorously eschewing any religious or political agenda.

This new generation institution for rural learning is set on a new two-acre campus adjacent to the nearby all-weather road, amid the rice paddies of Kuli in the Kandi subdivision of West Bengal’s Murshidabad district.

In design and intent, it seeks to correct the prevalent and glaring imbalance wherein rural children across India lack access to quality learning facilities that students in our bigger cities readily benefit from.

Great care and attention has been paid in designing bright and friendly learning spaces which encourage creative interaction between teachers and students, as well as between the learners themselves.

Starting with the academic session of May 2005, it offers education in the English medium, with Bengali as a vernacular, second language. Students admitted into its fold from the primary level upwards will be prepared for higher secondary board examinations under the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).

Students come to Jagriti from three different blocks;
Burwan, Kandi and Khargram. Overall students journey from a 25 km radius around Jagriti. Because some students come from quite a distance, the buses are essential for assuring reliable and safe transportation to and from school.

Jagiti’s teaching staff is composed of professional and energetic people. The non-teaching staff are mostly local residents, many residing in Katna or other neighboring villages. Many have been with Jagriti since its inception in Katna and are highly dedicated to serving the students, parents and teachers in the community.
